The problem with pointing a pistol at a lizard was that it was highly unlikely to have the same fear response as a human, and that fear was really most of the point if you weren't planning to fire. In fact, it had quite the opposite effect. Completely disregarding the few crewmen who had actually bothered to approach with ropes, the dragonet simply stopped in front of Edward, sat up on his haunches, and craned his long neck around to examine the mechanism in the human's hand.
Perhaps this would have been more reassuring if it didn't place two rows of razor-sharp teeth within striking range of his hand, or if the dragonet hadn't flared out his wings for balance, scattering pieces of eggshell about him and making him a great deal more complicated a target to grab without coming into contact with claw or spine.
