As the dragon burst out of the sea and onto the deck with a shark in its mouth like some manner of sea monster, Edward had to bellow once again for his crew to hold their fire. Then, swearing under his breath, he crossed down the deck again, staring at the dragon with an odd mix of being irritated and impressed. "You caught this on your own?"
Maybe Ade was right, and they
sell the dragon. It would save a lot of the dangers of harpooning with a dragon to catch things for them. Not least to think of the benefits of having a dragon help attack and sink ships...
But a dragon also meant competition with something much bigger and more powerful than them, opposed to the immediate profit of selling it. The idea was dismissed.
"And why," Edward said, crouching low to put them at an eye level, with an air of mock civility, "shouldn't I lock you up? Chances are you'll fly off that the first sight of land and never come back."
