Another dangerously toothy grin. "And let my prize get away? I reckon not. Tie it to the mainmast, men. I want a cage prepared in the brig, and someone get it some food, before it decides to make you dinner."
Those orders given, he swaggered back up to the quarterdeck to take the wheel, as one of the sailors lashed the dragonet's makeshift leash to the mast. Two men stood by, hands to pistols should the dragon prove violent, while others disappeared below deck. As Edward took the wheel, the dragonet might have been able to make out snatches of his conversation with Adewale, who voiced disapproval of this whole plan, that keeping such a thing on board -- and
it like common cattle -- was madness, and that he was endangering the whole crew.
Of course, as usual, Edward paid little heed to his quartermaster's advice. His plan was a good one: if it would make them all rich, what did it matter of the consequences? Within a few days the dragon would be sold off in some port, and he would be set for life. The rest would be someone else's problem.
